Indigitous People Groups.

In the summer of 2021, I had the opportunity to work on a character design project for a children's book. Here, I've detailed the process and results of this design project.

1. "Research and Development"

In order to preserve cultural authenticity and respectful interpretations of various global people groups, acquiring accurate reference was essential. The first part of the development involved compiling boards of images that designs could be drawn from.

2. "Draw-Overs... and over, and over"

Like all things, the first character design might not be the best. Fortunately, I was able to design under an industry professional and a small group of other designers. The bulk of this project turned out to be reiterating previous designs and honing in on the desired characters. Here are a few of those iterations.

3. "Hair and Makeup"

After many versions and design adjustments, the characters began to take hold visually. Finally, it was time to clean up designs and apply color and detail. After 14 weeks, I completed 8 character designs. Here they are!
